Machine vs. Domain SID and Uniqueness
An interesting post from Mark Russinovich on debunking the myth of requiring unique machine SID values in a workgroup or domain environment. Bottom line is its not required for Windows networking but based on user comments you could still run in to some 3rd party application issues that use the machine SID as a unique identifier within their own application architecture. If your in the systems or machine imaging game you should read this post, The Machine SID Duplication Myth.
